Takaanaho Shrine

This is a historic shrine in Shiga Prefecture that has been worshipped since ancient times as a shrine listed in the Engishiki. The main deity is Yamatohime-no-mikoto, who is worshiped as the goddess of fertility, safe childbirth, and good fortune.

Sakamoto Castle Ruins

These are the remains of Hira Castle, built by Akechi Mitsuhide, a famous general during the Sengoku period. Currently, stone monuments and information boards have been installed, making it a walking spot where you can feel the history of that time.

Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine

This ancient shrine in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture is the head shrine of the approximately 3,800 Hiyoshi, Hie, and Sanno shrines across the country. Its main shrine building, an Important Cultural Property, and beautiful gardens are sure to please.

Enryakuji Temple, Mount Hiei

Located on Mount Hiei in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, this is the head temple of the Tendai sect and was founded by Saicho in 788. It is registered as part of the World Heritage Site “Cultural Monuments of Ancient Kyoto,” and is attractive for its harmony between historical Buddhist culture and nature.

Saikyoji Temple

This temple is the head temple of the Tendai Shinsei sect and was founded by the Muromachi period monk Shinsei Shonin. The temple grounds are home to the grave of Akechi Mitsuhide and a memorial tower for his family, making it known as a place closely connected to Mitsuhide.

The remains of the Sakamoto town of Anato-shu-zumi

This area is known for its traditional stone wall construction method, “Anou-shu-zumi.” It developed as a temple town for Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei, and the stone wall techniques are highly regarded as cultural assets that combine beauty and durability.
